Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against child marriage.
He made the remarks on Saturday while speaking as chief guest at a discussion held at Lalmonirhat Circuit House.
The meeting was organised with registered Muslim Nikah registrars and Hindu marriage registrars of the district.
“Child marriage will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved,” he said.
He warned that anyone assisting in registering such marriages for financial gain would face action and urged registrars to ensure proper verification of age.
The minister stressed the need to introduce digital systems to make the marriage registration process easier, more transparent and updated.
He said proper registration in line with rules would help maintain social order and protect women’s rights.
The meeting was chaired by Lalmonirhat District Commissioner Mohammad Rashedul Haque.
Among others, Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mononita Das and officials from the district Kazis’ association were present.
Participants discussed ways to make the marriage registration system more effective, transparent and modern.
