The government has removed Mohammad Azaz from his post as administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a notification in this regard on Monday.
According to the notification, Suraiya Akter Jahan, additional secretary of the Local Government Division, has been appointed as the new administrator of DNCC.
It stated: “Under sub-section (1) of section 25K of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, Suraiya Akter is hereby given this responsibility until further notice.”
The new administrator will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the DNCC mayor as part of her additional responsibilities.
Earlier, on February 12 last year, Azaz was appointed as DNCC administrator.
However, following various allegations of irregularities and corruption against him, on February 1 this year, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz imposed a travel ban on him in response to an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
