The interim government has issued the Anti-Corruption Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, increasing the number of commissioners from three to five and reducing the commission’s tenure from five years to four, in a move aimed at strengthening the anti-graft watchdog.
The ordinance, issued on Tuesday, specifies that the ACC will now comprise up to five commissioners, including at least one female commissioner and one with expertise in information and communication technology (ICT).
The President will appoint one of the commissioners as chairperson.
Under the new rules, the ACC must publish a report of its activities every six months, and all officials are required to submit statements of their assets.
The ordinance also empowers the ACC to investigate corruption allegations involving Bangladeshis living abroad.
The amendment follows the recommendations of the Reform Commission and was approved as a draft on 23 October.
Officials say the changes are intended to make the ACC more effective and transparent in tackling corruption.
