Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the full implementation of the July Charter, stating that the prime minister has explicitly declared it will be executed to the letter.
Addressing concerns during a visit to injured July fighters undergoing treatment in Thailand on Tuesday, the minister noted that while a certain quarter is attempting to spread confusion regarding the July Charter, the government remains entirely dedicated to its realisation.
Accompanied by the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Thailand, the minister monitored the medical progress of the fighters at Vejthani International Hospital in Bangkok and wished them a speedy recovery.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs is currently covering all medical and incidental expenses for those injured during the July mass uprising who are receiving treatment in Thailand, Russia, Singapore, and Turkey.
To ensure the long-term welfare of these individuals and the families of martyrs, the government has established the “July Mass Uprising Directorate” under the ministry.
This new body is tasked with preserving the history and ideals of the uprising, as well as the verification, list preparation, and gazette publication of the participants.
According to the minister, there are currently 14,369 July fighters registered in the Management Information System (MIS), while the number of martyrs stands at 844.
The government has detailed a comprehensive welfare package for those affected.
A one-time savings certificate of Tk30 lakh and a monthly honourarium of Tk20,000.
Depending on the severity of their injuries, they receive one-time savings certificates of Tk5 lakh, 3 lakh, or 1 lakh, along with monthly allowances of Tk20,000, 15,000, or 10,000.
Regarding specialised healthcare, a total of 152 injured July fighters were sent abroad to Russia, Thailand, Singapore, and Turkey for advanced treatment. Of these, 92 have returned home following their treatment, while 60 individuals remain abroad for continued care.
The minister also highlighted ongoing rehabilitation initiatives. Out of 3,425 applications received through district administrators, the ministry has forwarded the cases of 1,937 July fighters to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
This move aims to facilitate their integration into the workforce through specialised training and employment programmes.
