The government has appointed another 96 deprived candidates from the 27th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination to different cadres.
A notification has been issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Public Administration based on the recommendation of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).
The notification instructed the newly appointed candidates to join their respective cadre‑controlling ministries or divisions by 18 May. If no further instructions are given, they must join on that date. Failure to join on time will be treated as refusal, and the appointment will be cancelled.
It further stated that, to preserve seniority, the appointments will be considered effective retrospectively from the date the first batch of 27th BCS appointments was notified.
Their conceptual seniority will remain intact, though they will not receive any arrears or financial benefits.
In the first viva voce of the 27th BCS, 3,567 candidates passed. In 2007, the caretaker government cancelled that result citing irregularities and corruption and held a second viva voce.
Candidates who passed the first viva challenged the cancellation in court. On 3 July 2008, the High Court upheld the cancellation as valid. The petitioners then filed a leave to appeal with the Appellate Division.
On 20 February last year, the Appellate Division ordered the appointment of 1,137 deprived candidates. Later, on 18 December, the ministry appointed 673 more candidates through a notification.
