The government has launched a special initiative to combat air pollution in Bangladesh, offering rewards to citizens who report incidents of waste burning.
According to a press release, air pollution has become a serious threat to public health, with emissions from vehicles, brick kilns, industrial facilities, and the burning of waste steadily degrading air quality.
The rise in pollutants poses particular risks to children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions, contributing to respiratory illnesses and other health hazards.
To tackle this challenge, authorities are taking firm action against waste burning, one of the country’s major sources of air pollution. As part of this effort, the government is seeking precise information on locations where waste burning occurs. Officials emphasise that active citizen participation is essential for the initiative’s success.
Members of the public are requested to submit photographs of waste burning incidents to [email protected]. Submissions must include the name of the sender, mobile number, exact location and address, and the time of the incident.
Each month, the best ten photographs will be selected after verification, and rewards will be given to the contributors. Authorities hope that this programme will encourage widespread public engagement and play a significant role in reducing air pollution across the country.
