The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has increased the price of gold in the domestic market for third consecutive time.
In its latest adjustment, the association raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk1,133 per bhori, setting the new price at Tk236,779 per bhori, including Value Added Tax (VAT).
According to a press release issued by BAJUS on Thursday morning, the new rates became effective from 10am.
The association stated that the price hike was decided due to an increase in the price of pure gold (tejabi gold) in local market.
Under the revised rates, a bhori (equivalent to 11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk236,779. Additionally, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk226,165 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk194,260 per bhori, and traditional-method gold at Tk158,630 per bhori.
BAJUS noted that these rates will remain effective across all jewellery shops until further notice. However, making charges (wages) will apply depending on the design of the ornaments. Since VAT is already incorporated into the final selling price of gold and silver jewellery, retailers cannot charge customers separate VAT.
The association added that previous guidelines regarding ornament exchange and purchase excluding specific VAT, wages, and stones will remain in force.
This latest hike follows a previous price adjustment on the morning of 11 August, when BAJUS increased the price of 22-carat gold by Tk1,108 per bhori to Tk235,146.
During that adjustment, the price of 21-carat gold was fixed at Tk224,590 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk192,864 per bhori, and traditional-method gold at Tk157,522 per bhori.
With this latest revision, domestic gold prices have been adjusted 102 times so far this year. Of these adjustments, prices were increased 51 times, decreased 50 times, and adjusted once for VAT.
In the preceding year, 2025, the local market saw gold prices adjusted 93 times, which included 64 increases and 29 reductions.
