Gold prices in the country have hit a fresh record, as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk4,199 per bhori within a single day.

The new price has been set at Tk2,38,879 per bhori and came into effect from Tuesday, the association said.

Furthermore, 21-carat gold has been set at Tk2,28,031 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk1,95,430 per bhori, and the price for traditional method gold has been set at Tk1,60,147 per bhori.

Meanwhile, in the notice, BAJUS further stated that the government-mandated 5 percent VAT and the BAJUS-determined minimum making charge of 6 percent must be added to the selling price of gold.

However, the making charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.

Along with the increase in gold price, the price of silver has also been increased this time. The price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk6,240 per bhori, after an increase of Tk291. This is the highest price for silver in the country’s history.

Furthermore, 21-carat silver has been set at Tk5,949 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk5,132 per bhori, and the price for traditional method silver has been set at Tk3,849 per bhori.
