Ed Skrein has joined the cast of the live-action ‘God of War’ television series on Amazon Prime Video, taking on the role of Baldur.
The series, currently in pre-production in Vancouver, stars Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus. Other confirmed cast members include Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, and Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as the brothers Brok and Sindri.
The live-action adaptation follows the story of the two most recent God of War games, in which Kratos raises his 10-year-old son Atreus while confronting the gods of the Norse pantheon. According to the official synopsis, Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Along the way, Kratos seeks to teach Atreus how to be a better god, while the boy attempts to teach his father how to be a better human.
Baldur is described as the youngest son of Odin and his most dangerous weapon. The character is charismatic and unpredictable, cursed from childhood to be unable to feel pleasure or physical sensation. This curse fuels his anger and bloodlust, and he fights with a brawling style that combines raw power with expert combat skills. Baldur longs for an opponent who can challenge him and make him feel something.
Skrein is known for his film roles in ‘Deadpool’, ‘Alita: Battle Angel’, ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ and Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’. His television credits include ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘All the Light We Cannot See’.
Amazon has ordered two seasons of God of War, with Ronald D. Moore serving as writer, showrunner and executive producer under his Tall Ship Productions banner. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes.
Additional executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis serve as co-executive producers.
The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions, which operates under an overall deal with Sony TV.
