The newly appointed Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Md Abdus Salam, has directed officials to work with utmost professionalism and dedication to transform Dhaka into a modern “Green City-Clean City” following the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He issued these instructions on Wednesday during an exchange meeting held at Nagar Bhaban with the corporation’s senior officials and the waste management department. The meetings identified four priority programmes to transform Dhaka into a livable, green city: 1. Tree plantation and extensive greening, 2. Restoring flow and dredging canals, 3. Modern waste management, and 4. Effective mosquito control.
A decision was made to formulate a comprehensive action plan within the next week and submit it to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Due to the recent increase in mosquito infestation, various wards under DSCC have been identified as “high-risk”. To ensure 100% effectiveness of mosquito control activities, a decision was taken to form a robust “Monitoring Team” comprising senior officials.
Furthermore, emphasis was placed on increasing public awareness by involving local civil society in these activities. The meeting warned that if mosquito larvae are found due to negligence or if the environment is polluted even after awareness campaigns, strict legal action and mobile court operations will be conducted.
Addressing the officials, Administrator Md Abdus Salam said, “The City Corporation is a service-oriented institution. Our main task will be to fulfill our accountability and commitment to the people. Just as rewards will be ensured for good work, negligence will result in reprimand and strict action. We must demonstrate maximum professionalism to realise the prime minister’s dream of a “Green City, Clean City”.
He further announced that all DSCC citizen services would remain fully operational and uninterrupted from today.
