Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) has assigned Additional Chief Engineer Sudip Basak the current responsibilities of chief engineer as part of efforts to improve the efficiency of its administrative and engineering operations.
The appointment was made through an office order signed by GCC Chief Executive Officer Tanzila Khanam on 12 October, with immediate effect, the corporation said in a press release.
Under memorandum No. 46.19.0000.004.11.288.22, Basak will discharge the duties of chief engineer until a reinstatement order or further instructions are issued. The directive was approved by the appropriate authority.
Corporation sources said the decision was intended to accelerate administrative and engineering activities, particularly infrastructure development, road construction and repairs, drainage improvements and the planning and implementation of engineering projects.
Officials concerned expect Basak to play an important role in overseeing these activities and improving coordination among departments.
However, the office order did not identify any specific project, administrative difficulty or previous official whose responsibilities prompted the arrangement.
Copies of the directive have been sent to the corporation secretary, departmental heads, regional executive officers and relevant offices for necessary action. The authorities have also been requested to publish the order on GCC’s website.
