The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has installed 32 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and 18 large-screen monitors at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, allowing passengers to watch their luggage being handled in real time.CAAB
The cameras and 65-inch monitors have been installed across eight baggage belt areas to strengthen luggage security, improve passenger services and increase transparency and accountability in baggage handling, the authority said in a press release.
Under the new system, passengers will be able to follow their luggage from the moment it is unloaded from an aircraft until it reaches the collection belt.
Live footage displayed on the monitors will cover the transportation of luggage to designated areas, sorting operations and final delivery to the baggage belts.
CAAB said the system would give passengers a clearer picture of how their belongings are handled and keep them informed throughout the collection process.
The authority expects the initiative to improve efficiency, transparency and accountability in baggage management.
CAAB said it remained committed to protecting passengers’ interests, ensuring safe and comfortable travel and developing airport management in line with international standards.
It also pledged to continue expanding technology-driven, passenger-friendly services to help domestic and international travellers, particularly expatriate Bangladeshis, collect their luggage smoothly and with greater confidence.
The authority described the initiative as an important step towards improving service standards at the country’s main international airport.
