Gazipur-4 Member of Parliament Salahuddin Ayubi on Sunday expressed deep concern in the National Parliament over the worsening electricity supply situation, highlighting the severe hardship faced by SSC examinees.
Speaking during a session presided over by Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, Ayubi drew attention to matters of public importance, saying that several areas, including Kapasia in Gazipur, are experiencing load shedding lasting between 10 and 12 hours a day.
He said the prolonged power cuts have pushed SSC candidates into extreme distress, severely hampering their ability to continue studies.
Beyond the impact on education, the lawmaker said the electricity crisis has disrupted medical services and irrigation activities. He warned that failure to ensure timely electricity supply for irrigation could have long-term adverse effects on the agriculture sector.
Urging immediate intervention, Ayubi cautioned that multiple sectors could face irreparable damage unless the power crisis is addressed without delay, and called for effective measures from the Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
In a separate remark, the MP also levelled serious allegations of corruption in procurement processes. He claimed that widespread irregularities had taken place in the purchase of various items, asserting that goods worth Tk4,000 were allegedly procured at an inflated cost of Tk21,000 crore.
