Israel has seized the last ship attempting to break the blockade on Gaza, detaining hundreds of activists across multiple vessels.
Early Friday morning, Israeli forces boarded the Polish-flagged Marinette, the final vessel of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which began with 44 ships. The yacht reportedly carries a crew of six.
The International Committee said several of those arrested have started an indefinite hunger strike since their detention.
Via video call with flotilla organisers on Thursday, the Australian captain Cameron said the boat had fallen behind the main group due to engine problems. He confirmed the vessel is now “heading steadily” toward Gaza.
“We have a resilient group onboard, including some Turkish activists, a woman from Oman, and myself. We will continue our journey,” he said.
Live footage from the yacht early Friday showed the crew navigating international waters in the Mediterranean, with the sun rising behind them.
According to a live geo tracker, the vessel is about 43 nautical miles (roughly 80 km) from Gaza’s coast.
