A mobile court on Monday fined four business establishments a total of Tk45,000 for illegally hoarding bottled soybean oil and violating consumer rights at Baburhat Bazar in Chandpur city.
Abdullah Al Imran, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) district office, conducted the regular market monitoring drive on Monday afternoon.
During the operation, M/S Ahil Enterprise was fined Tk 30,000 for the illegal hoarding of bottled soybean oil and for selling the product at prices exceeding the government-fixed rate.
M/S Smriti Traders was penalised Tk 5,000 for overpricing, while Hawladar Traders received a Tk 5,000 fine after bottled soybean oil was found hoarded on their premises.
Additionally, M/S Bismillah Traders was fined Tk 5,000 for storing rotten and stale meat in a refrigerator.
Officials recovered 320 litres of bottled soybean oil during the crackdown, which were subsequently sold to general consumers at the regulated price.
The drive was supported by representatives from the National Security Intelligence (NSI), District Sanitary Inspector Md Nazrul Islam, and a team from the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party.
Assistant Director Abdullah Al Imran stated that such operations would continue in the public interest.
