Bangladesh Army has arrested four people along with locally made weapons and a large quantity of narcotics in separate operations in the Mohammadpur and Adabor areas of the capital, based on specific intelligence inputs.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued on Saturday.
Of those arrested, two are identified members of a juvenile gang, while the other two are drug dealers. The arrestees, along with the recovered weapons and narcotics, were handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for further legal proceedings.
According to the press release, the first operation was conducted late Friday night in the Adabor area.
During the raid, two individuals – Md Sujon Bepari, 27, and Md Rabbi, 22 – were arrested with a locally made weapon (samurai).
The army said both arrestees are known juvenile gang members and face multiple allegations of mugging and robbery. While attempting to flee to evade arrest, they jumped from the roof of a two-storey building onto a nearby tin-shed, sustaining minor injuries. They were later arrested and given primary medical treatment.
On the same night, a separate operation was carried out in the Geneva Camp area of Mohammadpur, where a large cache of narcotics was recovered.
During the raid, the army arrested Md Bulu, 40 and Md Shahabuddin, 24 with 130 packets and 105 grams of heroin, 200 yaba tablets, and Tk 32,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is Tk 5.77 lakh. The two are reportedly close associates of notorious drug dealer Chua Selim.
All four arrestees, along with the seized weapons and narcotics, were handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station by the Army’s 46 Independent Infantry Brigade for further legal action.
Local residents expressed satisfaction over the army’s operations, saying the raids have brought relief to the area and thanking the army personnel for their efforts.
A responsible official of the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade said the arrestees have been handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station and legal proceedings are underway. He added that army personnel remain vigilant at all times to curb crime and criminal activities.
He also urged the public to inform the nearest army camp or police station if they have any information regarding criminal activities.
