Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, who served as the principal secretary to former prime minister Khaleda Zia, passed away early Monday.
A government statement issued in the morning confirmed that he breathed his last at Gulshan residence, reports UNB.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque following the Asr prayer. He will be laid to rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Dhaka, the statement also said.
Kamal held the position of principal secretary under Khaleda Zia until 2006.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the death of Kamal.
In a condolence message, the Chief Adviser said that Kamal was an honest, visionary, and dedicated civil servant who worked to modernise the country’s administrative structure. As a freedom fighter, researcher, and policymaker, his contributions will be remembered with respect by the nation, the CA added.
He further said, “I had a long-standing friendship with Dr Kamal Siddiqui. We often discussed the future of the country, administrative reforms, and international experiences. He was a principled, humble, and patriotic individual. Personally, I have lost a dear friend and a wise companion.”
“Due to the hostile and vindictive nature of the country’s politics, he was forced to leave the country multiple times. He endured unjust harassment through several legal cases — an extremely unfortunate reality. Yet, he never wavered from his values or his love for the country,” he added.
