Members of law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, have arrested a former madrasa teacher in connection with the kidnapping of a 10-year-old student and the subsequent collection of ransom in the capital’s Badda area.
The arrestee has been identified as Abu Rayhan (23).
According to sources from Badda Police Station, the victim, Nasiruzzaman Nirob (10), was abducted at approximately 5pm on Monday.
The incident occurred while the child was on his way to Madrasatul Islah Al Arabia, situated on Satarkul Road in Abdullahbag, North Badda.
The kidnapper, Abu Rayhan, reportedly extorted a ransom of Tk1,05,000 following the abduction.
Following the incident, a specialized investigative team from Badda Police Station immediately visited the scene. By analysing CCTV footage, utilizing source intelligence, and employing advanced mobile tracking technology, the police were able to confirm the location of the suspect.
On Tuesday, the police team conducted a successful raid in the Jangalia Bazar area under Madarganj Police Station in Jamalpur district. During the operation, Abu Rayhan was apprehended, and the kidnapped child, Nasiruzzaman Nirob, was rescued in a healthy condition.
Furthermore, law enforcement successfully recovered the full ransom amount of 1,05,000 BDT. The child has since been handed over to his family.
Legal proceedings against the accused are currently in progress. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy regarding child kidnapping, torture, and ransom, stating that their operations to ensure public safety will continue.
