A Dhaka court has ordered that former senior prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Tureen Afroz be shown arrested in a criminal case after a hearing.
She was produced before the court on Monday morning and placed in the dock of Dhaka Metropolitan Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain’s court.
She was later brought before the court for a hearing on a “show arrest” application, a legal process that allows a person already in custody to be shown arrested in another case. Following the hearing, the court granted the order.
According to case documents and allegations from the complainant, the dispute stems from the alleged possession and forgery of family property in Uttara, Dhaka.
Complainant Shah Nawaz Ahmed alleged that the accused, Tureen Afroz, used influence and fraud in an attempt to seize their ancestral property.
The complaint states that after the death of their father, she prepared a fake affidavit and claimed ownership of the property through forgery.
It further alleges that she entered the complainant’s mother’s flat using influence, physically assaulted her, and took away important documents and deeds.
The case also alleges that Tureen Afroz threatened the complainant and his family with death, leaving them in prolonged fear and insecurity.
Court documents state that there was a delay in filing the case as the complainant remained abroad for a long period.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted its report after completing the investigation. The complainant’s lawyer, Advocate Kafil Mahmud Raihan, said the application to show the accused arrested was filed based on the investigation report.
After hearing the petition, the court approved the application and issued the order accordingly.
