Against the backdrop of recent political developments and upcoming national election, the government has decided to brief foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka to apprise them of the current situation.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam is scheduled to hold the briefing at the state guest house Padma at 3pm, according to official sources.
A senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said such briefings are standard diplomatic practice. “Whenever there is a major development and the government feels the need to share information collectively, diplomats are briefed to ensure clarity and transparency,” the official said.
The 13th parliamentary election is scheduled to be held on 12 February 2026. In recent days, the political environment has been marked by sporadic incidents of violence.
One such incident involved an attempted assassination of political leader Osman Sharif Hadi, raising concerns about the overall security situation in the lead-up to the polls.
