Semiconductors, now central to the global technology industry, have largely remained unknown to the general public in Bangladesh, confined mostly to electronic engineering students and professionals. To bridge this gap, the first Bangla book on semiconductors, titled The Advancement of Technology: Semiconductors and Bangladesh’s Potential, was officially launched on September 5, 2025.
Authored by Ulkasemi CEO and President Mohammad Enayetur Rahman, the book offers a comprehensive look at the technology and its future in Bangladesh. Published by Student-Ways, it covers the basics of semiconductor technology, its role in the global industry, and presents a roadmap for Bangladesh’s involvement in this vital sector. It also offers guidance to engineering students and professionals, drawing from international experiences.
At the launch event, Rahman shared his vision for the country’s future in semiconductor technology. “When I look at our neighboring countries, I don’t just see competition; I see a plan of action. There is no reason why Bangladesh cannot achieve similar success. Our talented students are the key to building that future, supported by their teachers and parents. This book is for everyone,” he said.
The launch event was attended by First Secretary of the High Commission of Brunei Rozaimee Abdullah, Country Managing Director of Microsoft for Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal Md Yousup Faruqu, and Chairperson of Ulkasemi Dr Arifa Chowdhury Rahman. Faculty members from various universities, including Prof Dr Bobby Barua of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dr Shahriyar Masud Rizvi of American International University-Bangladesh, and Dr Mainul Hossain of University of Dhaka, were also present.
Semiconductors are crucial for modern technologies, especially in fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI). Ulkasemi, Bangladesh’s leading semiconductor company, is playing a key role in advancing these technologies, with a team of 550 skilled engineers. The company is aiming to turn Bangladesh’s semiconductor industry into a multi-billion-dollar market by 2030.
