From 11:00am to 3pm on Tuesday, a mobile court was conducted on the initiative of the Fire Service and Civil Defense at various chemical godowns at SK Traders, 74 Puthighar, Shyambazar, Sutrapur, Dhaka.
Through the mobile court, SK Traders’ officers and employees Nayan Debnath, Mizanur Rahman, and Dipankar Roy were sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment and a fine of Tk1,000 taka each, with an additional 15 days of imprisonment in case of non-payment, according to Fire Defence Media Cell.
Furthermore, the institution’s officers and employees Sushil Pal, Manoranjan Siva, and Md Hashem were sentenced to 15 days of imprisonment each.
This punishment was imposed for storing chemicals in a residential area in violation of regulations, for not having adequate fire safety measures, and for not complying with various government directives. The mobile court was conducted by Senior Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate, Office of the District Commissioner, Dhaka, Sharif Mohammad Helal Uddin.
Present at the time were Kazi Nazmuzzaman, assistant director, Fire Service and Civil Defense, Dhaka; Foysalur Rahman, zone commander, Dhaka-5; Md Enamul Haque, zone commander, Dhaka-1; 4 warehouse inspectors from the Dhaka Fire Service; and members of the law enforcement agencies.
Kazi Nazmuzzaman, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Dhaka, stated, “The mobile court was conducted to strengthen fire safety, alongside various awareness-raising activities. Mobile courts will continue to be conducted in the future to enhance fire safety.”
He requested all concerned to relocate illegal chemical godowns from residential areas to safe locations, considering the safety of human lives and property.
