A devastating fire burned down 15 shops in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur. The blaze broke out at 4am of Friday at Alexander Bazar in the upazila.
Locals said the fire originated from an electrical short circuit at Rasel’s grocery shop. Within moments, the flames spread to adjacent shops. Two units of the fire service rushed to the scene and, with help from locals, brought the fire under control after nearly two hours of effort.
The affected shop owners said the damage amounts to around Tk 50 lakh.
Ramgati Fire Service Station Officer Khokon Majumdar said initial assessment suggests the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit. He added the losses are estimated at around Tk 50 lakh.
