A devastating fire has gutted the Matarbari coal-fired power plant scrap yard in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar.
The fire started around 8pm on Monday inside the scrap yard located near the power plant complex.
Immediately after the incident, a Fire Service unit began working to control the blaze. Considering the gravity of the situation, multiple additional Fire Service units from surrounding upazilas have also been dispatched to the scene.
Till the filing of this report, the fire has not been yet been brought under control.
Dolon Acharya, senior station officer of Cox’s Bazar Fire Service Station, said, “A fire broke out at the scrap yard of the Matarbari plant. Four units from the Maheshkhali and Chakaria upazila fire services are at the scene.”
Maheshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Imran Mahmud Dalim confirmed the incident, stating that a fire had broken out inside the power plant’s scrap yard. The exact cause of the fire had not yet been confirmed.
