A fire has broken out at a garments factory and a chemical godown in Shiyalbari, Mirpur in the capital. Seven units of the Fire Service were working at the scene as of writing this report, with one more unit on its way to the scene.
The Fire Service received news of the fire around quarter to noon on Tuesday. Subsequently, the first unit reached the scene at 11:56am and began work.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell officer Talha Bin Jasim said, “A fire has broken out at two establishments in the Shiyalbari area of Mirpur. One is a ready-made garments factory, the other is a chemical godown. The garments factory is a seven-story building. The fire started on its fourth floor. We have largely extinguished the fire at the garments factory unit. However, efforts to control the fire at the chemical godown are ongoing.”
He also informed, “Upon receiving the news, five units initially went to extinguish the fire. Later, two more joined. Another unit is on its way to the scene.”
He further said, “The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not currently known. Furthermore, no information about any casualties in the fire has reached us so far.”
