A devastating fire broke out at the Islamic Bank PLC branch in Singiar upazila of Manikganj around 2:30am on Monday, said Branch Manager Md Ramjan Ali.
He stated that their assumption is that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. The raging flames completely destroyed 8 computers, 2 printers, 3 ACs, and various furniture and furnishings in the bank. The estimated loss is around Tk30 lakh.
Upon receiving news of the fire, two units from the Singair Fire Service, along with police and local residents, quickly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after nearly an hour of effort.
Md Mohibur Rahman, in-charge of Singair Fire Service Station, said, “The swift initiation of work by the two units prevented the fire from spreading further. It is highly likely that the fire started from a short circuit.”
Following the incident, AKM Mahbub Morshed, head of Dhaka North Zone and senior executive vice president of Islamic Bank, visited the site on morning to assess the extent of the damage.
Despite the damage caused by the fire, Ramjan urged customers not to panic. He said, “We are taking swift measures to normalise the bank’s operations. We request customers to be patient.”
