Miscreants set fire to the nameplate of Grameen Industrial Park and detonated a crude explosive at the main entrance in the early hours of Monday in Gazipur’s Kharajora area.
The incident occurred at around 4:45am, prompting police deployment in the area. The industrial park is located beside the Dhaka–Tangail highway.
According to police and factory security personnel, several unidentified individuals ignited the signboard next to the main gate and detonated a crude bomb moments later.
Security staff managed to extinguish the flames using water pipes, though a portion of the nameplate was burnt and damaged. Officers from Gazipur Industrial Police arrived shortly after being informed.
Sirajul Islam, the factory’s security supervisor, said the attackers fled immediately after setting the fire and triggering the explosion. “We brought the fire under control quickly,” he added.
In a separate incident in the Mediarasulai area of Kaliakair, unidentified individuals also set fire to an excavator used for earthwork. Most of the vehicle was burnt in the attack.
Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Kaliakair Police Station, said officers had visited both sites and that legal action would follow.
