Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday presented a long-term economic roadmap aimed at reshaping Bangladesh into a sustainable, inclusive, and investment-driven economy by 2034, while unveiling the proposed national budget in Parliament.
Speaking during his budget presentation, the finance minister said the government’s strategy prioritises macroeconomic stability, investment expansion, productivity growth, employment generation, and equitable development across all regions and sectors.
He noted that the plan is designed to leverage Bangladesh’s demographic dividend, longevity dividend, and democratic dividend to accelerate economic progress. For the upcoming fiscal year, the government has projected inflation at 7.5 per cent and economic growth at 6.5 per cent, alongside efforts to strengthen overall economic stability and improve living standards.
Outlining the framework, he presented a 10-point priority agenda guiding fiscal and development policy.
The priorities include ensuring inclusive development for all citizens, expanding access to quality education and healthcare, and establishing a universal, life-cycle-based social protection system.
The roadmap also emphasises building an investment-led and productive economy through industrial expansion, export diversification, technological advancement, and strengthened agricultural production.
Other key focus areas include deregulation to improve the business environment, restoration of financial sector stability, and reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in the banking system and capital markets.
The minister also highlighted the importance of energy security, ensuring reliable and affordable supply while promoting sustainable energy solutions.
In addition, the plan prioritizes the development of the ICT sector, aiming to position Bangladesh as a competitive global technology exporter.
Environmental sustainability is a key focus of the roadmap, with initiatives including climate resilience, river restoration, canal excavation, afforestation, and enhanced water resource management.”
Finally, the government aims to strengthen transparent and efficient public institutions, improving governance and ensuring effective implementation of public investments.
The finance minister said the implementation of these priorities will guide Bangladesh toward long-term structural transformation, ensuring sustainable growth, stability, and inclusive development.
