Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has arrived at Jatiya Sangsad to present the national budget for 2026-27 fiscal year.
The minister reached the Parliament building on Thursday to attend the budget session and outline the country’s economic roadmap for the upcoming year. A special cabinet meeting regarding the budget was scheduled to be held at 10am.
Upon his arrival at Parliament, the finance minister said the government has formulated this year’s budget with the objective of ensuring relief for all citizens, despite the constraints of limited resources.
Earlier, while speaking to journalists on his way to the session, he mentioned that all aspects of the budget were determined by prioritising the country’s overall development and the improvement of the people’s standard of living.
He noted that the context of this year’s budget is somewhat different, as it is being presented under an elected government after a long interval.
Consequently, he acknowledged that national expectations and aspirations are very high, and the budget has been prepared with those thoughts and future goals in mind.
Khosru further remarked that the budget had to be framed within the nation’s existing capacities. He emphasised that the goal is to lead the country from a “shattered and fragile economy” towards stability and to build a prosperous Bangladesh in the days ahead.
The finance minister added that the most significant aspect of this budget is the effort to include all citizens. Special importance has been placed on ensuring that everyone can participate in national and economic activities, and that the benefits of economic development reach people at all levels of society.
He concluded by stating that the budget has been drafted with the aim of laying the foundation for a welfare state. Despite limited resources, the government intends to implement this budget by involving everyone.
