No festoons will be displayed on campus during the election, and transparent ballot boxes will be used in the upcoming elections, said Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) Chief Election Commissioner Professor Monir Uddin.
He made the assurance during a meeting with candidates and interested students, held to discuss the election code of conduct and other related matters. This discussion took place on Monday at the Social Science Faculty Auditorium.
Member Secretary Professor Dr AKM Ariful Haque Siddique, Commissioner Dr Amir Mohammad Nasrullah, Dr Md Anwar Hossain, and other election commissioners were present at the meeting.
In response to students’ queries, the commissioners assured that the election will be free from festoon campaigning and that transparent ballot boxes will be used. However, to ensure voter privacy, the transparent boxes will have a slight blur so that individual votes cannot be identified.
Students raised several points during the meeting, including requests for extending the shuttle train service and providing separate buses for students from the city. They also proposed delaying the election by two days due to ongoing departmental exams and other related issues.
Additionally, students demanded a four-day class and exam break before and after the election, as well as the establishment of a voting center at the Institute of Fine Arts for city students.
The students further requested that indelible ink be used during the election, and that LED screens should be disabled if there is no electricity.
When one candidate inquired about Facebook pages and IDs associated with the election, the administration assured appropriate action would be taken.
The election commission stated that 10 minutes will be allotted for each voter at the booth, and a voter list with candidate photos will be available.
