Bangladesh Football Federation postponed Tuesday’s Federation Cup final after a dispute over the venue between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Bashundhara Kings. BFF later fixed Wednesday for the final at Bashundhara Kings Arena following an emergency meeting in Dhaka.
Mohammedan had refused to play the final at Kings Arena against Bashundhara Kings, arguing against the original venue decision. The club softened its position after Tuesday morning’s meeting and agreed to play at the stadium “for the sake of football”, according to officials familiar with the discussions.
The delay triggered a sharp response from Bashundhara Kings. Club general secretary Biddut Kumar Bhowmik sent a letter to BFF on Tuesday morning and criticised the decision to postpone a final already listed on the fixture calendar.
Bashundhara Kings argued that changing the schedule damaged the competition and football operations. The club also requested BFF to award the Federation Cup trophy directly to the opposition if the scheduled match could not proceed on time.
The dispute started after Mohammedan submitted a letter to BFF on Wednesday over the choice of venue. Federation officials discussed the issue on Monday but failed to settle the matter before matchday.
BFF held another emergency meeting on Tuesday morning and confirmed Kings Arena as the venue for Wednesday’s final. Federation officials avoided the media after the meeting and offered no public explanation on the revised schedule or the disagreement between the two clubs.
The uncertainty now leaves organisers under pressure before one of the biggest domestic fixtures of the season. Both clubs had already completed preparations based on Tuesday’s original timetable.
