The Election Commission faces a major challenge in conducting the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election scheduled for February, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said on Monday.
He made the remarks at a views-exchange meeting held at the Bandarban Collectorate conference room Monday morning.
The commissioner visited Bandarban on an official tour to review the prevailing election situation and assess administrative preparedness.
During the visit, he held meetings with district administration officials, police, and election officers.
Sanaullah said the forthcoming election holds critical importance for national life, particularly in restoring a democratic environment and making the process acceptable to all stakeholders.
He noted that the Election Commission and other related institutions have lost public credibility due to controversial elections in the past. However, he said sincere and coordinated efforts from all concerned could help restore the commission’s lost trust and dignity.
The election commissioner also said conducting a free and fair election in the hill districts remains a significant challenge due to geographical conditions and the existing situation in the region.
Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence that the Election Commission would overcome all obstacles and deliver a credible and acceptable election to the nation.
