A three-day training titled “Disaster Preparedness, Business Continuity, and Multi-Hazard Management” has started at the Mongla Export Processing Zone (EPZ) with the goal of ensuring uninterrupted industrial operations and minimising production losses during emergencies.
The programme is jointly organised by the Safety Council of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Mongla EPZ authority, with participation from officials and workers of various factories operating within the zone. Kalam Md Abul Bashar, executive director of Mongla EPZ, inaugurated the session on Monday morning.
In his address, Bashar said that effective disaster preparedness and timely action can significantly reduce losses and keep industries operational during crises. He also commended FBCCI’s initiative to enhance industrial safety and resilience through capacity-building efforts, according to an FBCCI press release.
Waheduzzaman, additional executive director of Mongla EPZ, delivered the welcome speech, highlighting that the training would strengthen factory-level readiness and improve disaster risk management capacity among participants.
FBCCI Safety Council programme coordinator Md Manjur Kader Khan discussed the objectives and activities of the project. He noted that under the Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) of the Ministry of Disaster
Management and Relief, FBCCI is working to boost awareness and capability of industrial and commercial entities in managing disasters.
Khan expressed optimism that collaboration between the public and private sectors would help build a safer and more sustainable business environment. He also thanked the Gates Foundation for financial assistance and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) for technical support.
Among others present at the inaugural session were Mongla EPZ director (administration) Md Kawsar Hossain, zone officials, and FBCCI representatives.
