A man and his son were killed in a lightning strike while cutting jute in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were Anwar Prabhu, 55, and his son Nimai, 23, of Mohabbatpur Ganeshpar village under Jamalpur Union.
The incident took place around 2:30pm at a jute field in the village, said Kobindra, a member of Ward No. 6 of Jamalpur Union Parishad.
Locals said Anwar and Nimai went to a jute field near their home in the morning to cut jute.
As rain began later in the day, lightning struck the area, leaving both of them dead on the spot.
Kobindra confirmed that the father and son died instantly after being struck by lightning while working in the field.
The deaths have cast a pall of grief over the area, with relatives and neighbours mourning the loss.
