Bangladesh Cricket Board vice president Faruque Ahmed has stressed the need for more cricket grounds across the country.
He said the board should focus on basic facilities instead of building more big stadiums. He believes long term growth depends on strong grassroots work.
“It’s not that we only need big stadiums. What we really need are grounds,” Faruque told reporters after the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association iftar event on Friday.
The former national captain said many young players in remote areas do not get proper chances. They often lack good grounds and basic support.
He said the focus should be on simple but important things. A good wicket. A proper dressing room. A well kept ground.
“We believe that a good wicket, a dressing room, and a proper ground are what matter most,” he added.
Faruque said these facilities can help young players grow. With better grounds, talented cricketers from remote regions can show their skills and enter the system.
He also said the board’s vision matches that of the new State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque. Both sides want to strengthen cricket from the base up.
