A farmer died after being electrocuted while irrigating a paddy field in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 60.
Uttam Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station confirmed the matter on Sunday morning.
The incident took place around 9:30am in a field adjacent to Morka Bazar.
According to locals, Shahidul Islam, who owned a rice mill in Morka Bazar, also cultivated paddy in a nearby field.
The incident occurred when he went to start an electric motor to irrigate his land and accidentally came into contact with a live wire, leaving him critically injured.
Kamrul Islam, a local resident, said bystanders rescued Shahidul and rushed him to the Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead.
The OC Uttam said that police personnel had been dispatched to the scene.
