BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that if the ongoing fertiliser crisis is not resolved and farmers’ demands are not addressed, the party may stage demonstrations near Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices across the country.
He asserted that “bureaucratic rule” would no longer be tolerated.
He made the remarks on Thursday morning while speaking at a views exchange meeting at Danarhat Eidgah ground in Begunbari Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
Addressing the broader political situation, Fakhrul called for moving beyond “public relations politics” and urged all to focus on building the nation through elections. “People want elections, they want to vote, they want real representatives. Debates over PR can be dealt with in parliament,” he said.
The BNP leader accused ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina of holding onto power through violence and manipulation.
“Hasina has tried to stay in power by resorting to gunfire and killings. There have been three elections under the Awami League and all were held without the people’s vote. For 15 years, we have fought for just one thing, the right to vote.”
He acknowledged the upcoming general election scheduled for February 2026, stating that all parties have agreed to participate. “This is a chance to restore democracy,” he added.
Regarding the ongoing teachers’ protests, Fakhrul expressed solidarity and pledged that if the BNP is elected to power, the entire education system would be nationalised. He urged the public to support the BNP in the next election.
BNP’s Thakurgaon district president Mirza Faisal Amin, general secretary Paigam Ali, Sadar Upazila president Abdul Hamid, and general secretary Mahbub Hossain Tuhin were also present at the event, among other party leaders and activists.
