BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday condemned the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, independent candidate for Dhaka-8 and spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, describing the incident as ‘deeply regrettable’ and unacceptable in every way.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, Fakhrul called on the interim government to maintain strict law and order over the next two months, emphasising that protecting the safety of election candidates and ordinary citizens must be the government’s top priority.
He also suggested the formation of a special interim security cell if necessary to ensure public safety amid rising political tensions.
Fakhrul reiterated his condemnation of all forms of mob violence, highlighting that reckless acts of violence are completely unacceptable and undermine the democratic process.
“This act is entirely unacceptable and has caused widespread outrage, coming just a day after the national election schedule was announced,” he said.
He urged the government to immediately apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that Hadi receives proper medical treatment. Fakhrul also appealed to political leaders and activists to exercise patience and prudence in handling the situation.
“Any form of mob violence is unacceptable. Reckless actions serve no purpose,” he emphasized, while calling on the interim government to maintain law and order over the next two months and protect the lives of all citizens. He suggested that a special interim security cell could be formed if necessary.
Fakhrul also highlighted the upcoming return of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh on 25 December. “This will be a significant day for the BNP, Begum Khaleda Zia, her family, and the nation. We hope his return will be safe. Inshallah, better days lie ahead for Bangladesh,” he said.
Meanwhile, BNP will hold protest marches across the country on Saturday to condemn the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme on Friday, saying the demonstrations aim to protest the attack on Hadi, the recent assault on a BNP member in Chattogram, and the overall deterioration of law and order.
“The protests, which will take place nationwide including in Dhaka, demand swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore law and order,” Rizvi said.
