A case has been filed against a local Jubo Dal leader in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna on allegations of assaulting a businessman, attempting to murder him, and snatching money after failing to receive extortion money.

Sujanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon, mentioning that the case was registered on 23 September. Apart from the Jubo Dal leader, four other individuals have been named as accused in the case.

According to First Information Report (FIR), Jubo Dal leader Abdur Razzak Raja recently demanded Tk3 lakh in extortion from businessman Motaleb Hossain.

As the businessman expressed his inability to pay the demanded sum, the accused intercepted his vehicle, forced him out in public at local Jahanara Kanchan Bazar area while he was travelling from Sujanagar to Dhaka on the afternoon of September 20, physically assaulted him, and snatched Tk28,000 from his possession.

OC Mozaffar Hossain said Mostak Hossain, the nephew of the victim, filed the case as the complainant, naming Abdur Razzak Raja as the prime accused. He added that police efforts are underway to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, the accused Jubo Dal leader Abdur Razzak Raja claimed the allegations were false and baseless.

According to him, a protest procession of the activity-banned Awami League was brought out by the district Jubo League in Chinakhara area of the upazila on the night of 19 September.

Raja claimed Motaleb Hossain participated in that procession and served as its financier. He said local party activists obstructed the procession and handed six individuals over to the police.

He added that Motaleb filed a fictitious case to save himself, questioning why Motaleb’s alleged nephew Mostak became the complainant instead of Motaleb himself, while expressing strong condemnation and protest against the case.
