An expatriate named Sohel Hawlader was shot dead by miscreants in Purba Rupsha of Khulna.
The incident took place around 9pm on Thursday at Manik Sardar’s sand field in Rahimnagar village under No. 3 Naihati Union of the upazila.
The deceased Sohel was the son of Rustum Hawlader of the same village. He had been living abroad for a long time and had recently returned home.
According to Rupsha Police Station Inspector Sabur Khan, Sohel went out to buy yoghurt. When he reached Manik Sardar’s sand field, assailants opened fire on him.
Eight bullets hit various parts of his body. Locals rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The police official said efforts are underway to uncover the motive behind the killing and arrest those involved.
