The Election Commission (EC) has decided to deploy two executive magistrates in every upazila and police station area to ensure strict enforcement of the electoral code of conduct ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The directive was issued in a letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain and sent to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.
The letter states that preparations for the upcoming national election are in progress.
To ensure proper enforcement of the electoral code under the Mobile Court Act, 2009, the EC has ordered the appointment of at least two executive magistrates in each upazila and police station from the day after the announcement of the election schedule until two days after the polling concludes.
The commission has instructed the ministry to take necessary steps to facilitate these appointments.
Meanwhile, ahead of the national election and the referendum, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has recorded an address to the nation.
The speech will be broadcast on Thursday at 6pm on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar, where the CEC is expected to announce the election schedule and call for free, fair, and peaceful polls.
