The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Akhtaruzzaman, the former member of parliament (MP) for the Gazipur-5 constituency.
According to sources within the DMP’s DB, the 73-year-old former lawmaker was apprehended during a raid conducted at a residence in the capital’s Gulshan area at approximately 10pm on Wednesday.
He was arrested on allegations of being involved in the activities of a banned organisation. It was further reported that Akhtaruzzaman faces multiple cases, including charges of murder.
Necessary legal measures against the arrestee are currently underway.
