National Citizen Party (NCP) has nominated Manzur Quader, a former BNP lawmaker and former state minister, to contest the upcoming parliamentary election from Sirajganj-5 (Belkuchi and Chauhali).
NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain announced candidates for 124 constituencies nationwide. In Sirajganj on Wednesday, the nominees for four constituencies are Dilshana Parul (Sirajganj-3) Dyuti Aranya Chowdhury Preeti (Sirajganj-4), Manjur Qader (Sirajganj-5) and SM Saif Mostafiz (Sirajganj-6).
NCP’s decision to nominate Manzur Quader, a prominent BNP figure, has drawn attention in political circles.
Manzur Quader won the 2001 parliamentary election from the then Sirajganj-6 constituency (Chauhali and part of Shahzadpur) as a BNP candidate.
After the constituency was dissolved, he contested the 2008 elections from Sirajganj-5 under the BNP-led four-party alliance but narrowly lost to former Awami League minister Abdul Latif Biswas by only 255 votes.
Ahead of the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections, Manzur Quader had sought BNP’s nomination under the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol. However, the party ultimately selected Rajshahi divisional assistant organising secretary Amirul Islam Khan Alim for the seat.
Despite this setback, Manzur’s supporters had begun preparations for the election, and the NCP subsequently offered him their nomination.
Following the nomination, NCP Joint Member Secretary Mahin Ghosh congratulated Manzur Quader on social media, expressing confidence in his candidacy.
