A Dhaka court has postponed the hearing on showing NM Ziaul, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, arrested in a case over the killing of Mahbub Hasan Mamun during the July uprising.
The new date has been set for 15 July.
After the scheduled hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman passed the order on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, on 9 July, Md Abdul Alim, investigation officer of the case and sub‑inspector of Kafrul Police Station, filed an application to show the accused as arrested.
That day, the court set 13 July for the hearing in the presence of the accused. However, as the case documents were not available during the hearing, the court adjourned proceedings and fixed 15 July as the next date.
The accused was produced in court from prison during the hearing, said state counsel Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon.
According to the case statement, during the anti‑discrimination student movement on 19 July 2024, victim Mahbub Hasan Mamun, 34, joined a protest in front of the BRTA office under Mirpur Police Station. Around 4:30pm that day, he was injured by bullets allegedly fired by the accused.
He was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Following the incident, the victim’s wife filed a murder case with Kafrul Police Station, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 161 others as accused.
