Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Monday requested Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman to ensure a clearly defined command structure and close coordination among all forces in the coming months leading up to the elections in February.
General Waker called on Yunus at his official residence, State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, on Monday and briefed the chief adviser on his recent official visit to China, according to a statement posted on the Chief Adviser GOB page on Facebook.
Yunus also discussed the army’s role in assisting the civil administration.
He thanked the military for their continued contributions to maintaining law and order in the country and emphasised the need for streamlining this role, said the chief adviser’s press wing in a statement.
“I’ve made a solemn commitment to the nation to deliver an election that would stand out in terms of voter turnout, participation of new and women voters, global confidence in safety and security, and its atmosphere as a celebration of democracy and rule of law,” the chief adviser said.
In response, the army chief assured the chief adviser of his full cooperation with the interim government.
He has urged the chief adviser not to pay attention to rumours circulating around.
“The entire army is committed to making the government’s initiatives a success,” the army chief said.
After paying the courtesy call on the chief adviser at the State Guesthouse Jamuna, the army chief had a courtesy meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.
The army chief highlighted the experiences and important aspects of the discussions held during his recent visit to China, according to a media release issued by ISPR.
In addition, a detailed exchange of views was held on the overall law and order situation in the country and the role of the Army in improving it.
The army chief assured that Bangladesh Army will continue to provide all-out cooperation for improving the law-and-order situation in the country and ensuring the public security.
He also informed the president and the chief adviser about the ongoing internal development activities and future plans of the army.
