Elderly voter Abdul Sattar Gazi, 95, arrived at the polling centre to cast his vote on Thursday in the 13th parliamentary election and referendum, setting a unique example for others.
He arrived at Malipur Government Primary School at Nalchity, Jhalakathi, with the help of family members. Although his advanced age made movement difficult, his enthusiasm for voting remained undiminished.
Presiding Officer Mizanur Rahman said special assistance was provided to elderly and physically challenged voters.
After casting his vote, Abdul Sattar stated, “I have cast my vote in a peaceful and orderly manner. I am very happy that such an election has been held after a long time.”
Local voters remarked that the sight of the elderly man arriving to vote while leaning on a stick boosted the atmosphere at the centre. Many young voters also lauded his sense of responsibility.
