A 52-year-old man has allegedly raped a fourth-grade schoolgirl after luring her with a promise of Tk100 in Belkuchi Upazila of Sirajganj.
The accused, identified as Baten, has been on the run since the incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Khidramatia Dakshinpara area of the upazila. Later in the afternoon, the victim’s father filed a case as the plaintiff with Belkuchi Police Station.
According to police and local sources, on Wednesday morning, the victim went to a nearby shop to buy some items. On her way back, Baten allegedly lured her with the promise of Tk100 and took her to a grass field near her house, where he raped her.
Hearing her screams, local residents rushed to the spot, causing Baten to flee the scene. The family filed a complaint with the police after they were informed of the matter.
Confirming the incident, Belkuchi Police Station Investigation Officer (IO) Zohurul Islam said the victim’s father has filed a case. He added that the accused has been on the run since the incident and the police are making their utmost efforts to arrest him.
