Eight more children have died from measles and related symptoms across the country, bringing the total number of fatalities to 628, according to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest deaths recorded in the 24 hours ending at 8:00 am today (Monday), one was a confirmed case of measles, while seven children died with symptoms of the disease.
Among these deceased, three were from Dhaka division, with one death each reported in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Rangpur divisions.
The total death toll of 628 includes 536 children who died with symptoms and 92 confirmed measles deaths.
In the last 24 hours, 1,092 suspected measles cases were identified nationwide, and 974 children were hospitalised with symptoms.
Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new admissions with 346 children, followed by Chattogram with 221 and Barishal with 134. During the same period, 1,194 patients were discharged from various hospitals.
Since the first measles patient was identified on 15 March, a total of 80,104 people have shown symptoms of the disease.
According to the DGHS, 65,237 patients have been hospitalised to date, and 9,779 cases have been laboratory-confirmed as measles. So far, 61,278 patients have been discharged from hospitals following treatment.
Children suffering from the outbreak continue to receive treatment at various facilities, including the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital.
