The holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most significant religious celebrations for Muslims, is being observed in Bangladesh on Saturday.
The main Eid congregational prayer has been held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises around 8:30am.
Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, led the prayers, with Maulana Md Abu Saleh Patwari, Mufassir of the Islamic Foundation, as the alternate imam.
Both President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman participated in the main congregation at the National Eidgah in the capital.
Senior officials including the Chief Justice, cabinet members, Supreme Court judges, political leaders, and high-ranking civil and military officials also attended.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), which is organising the event, has made arrangements to accommodate approximately 35,000 devotees, with separate provisions for women.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam noted that police, RAB, and other law enforcement agencies will oversee security, while the Special Security Force (SSF) will ensure the safety of VVIPs.
There are two entrances for general devotees at the National Eidgah, a separate gate through the Supreme Court premises for VVIPs, and a designated entry for women.
Additionally, five sequential Eid congregations will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque around 10am, and 10:45am.
Senior Pesh Imam Maulana Mizanur Rahman will lead the first congregation, followed by Mufti Muhibbullahil Baqi Nadvi, Maulana Md Zakir Hossain, Maulana Zobayer Ahmed Al Azhari, and Mufti Maulana Mohammad Abdullah leading the subsequent prayers. Maulana Shahidul Islam will act as the alternate imam.
At the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, a separate Eid congregation was held around 8am, attended by MPs, Secretariat officials, and local residents. Arrangements have been made for women to join the prayers at this venue as well.
Participants are advised to arrive on time, perform ablution beforehand, and bring only essentials such as prayer mats, mobile phones, and umbrellas to maintain security and order.
