Pious Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated today, with nine films released across more than 150 cinema halls nationwide, according to the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association.
The list of releases includes Rockstar, Masud Rana, Roid, Malik, Bonolota Sen, Pinik, Toshnosh, Officer and The University of Chankharpool.
Association president Awlad Hossain Ujjal said releasing so many films simultaneously during Eid could pose financial risks for producers in the future.
Rockstar
The most talked-about Eid release is Shakib Khan-starrer Rockstar. Directed by Azman Rusho, the film has generated considerable excitement among audiences. The first promotional poster was unveiled on March 28, marking Shakib Khan’s birthday, followed later by the official teaser. Sabila Noor stars opposite the actor in the film.
Roid
Audiences are also eagerly awaiting Roid, the latest film from Hawa director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon. The film stars Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi in lead roles, alongside Gazi Rakayet, Ahsabul Yamin Riad and Tutul Fakir in pivotal characters.
The story revolves around the struggles of a holy man and his mentally unstable wife as they navigate poverty and hardship.
Malik
Directed by Saif Chandan, Malik stars Arifin Shuvoo and Bidya Sinha Saha Mim. The film follows the rise of a young man in the criminal underworld as he fights to protect his mother’s honour.
Masud Rana
Directed by Saikat Nasir and produced by Impress Telefilm and Jaaz Multimedia, Masud Rana stars Russell Rana and Puja Cherry. The film adaptation of Kazi Anwar Hossain’s iconic spy character has already sparked curiosity among viewers.
Bonolata Sen
Government-funded film Bonolata Sen, directed by Masud Hasan Ujjal, blends reality and metaphor to bring the poetic world of Jibanananda Das to the screen. Masuma Rahman Nabila stars as Bonolota, while Khairul Bashar portrays the poet.
Pinik
Pinik marks the directorial debut of Zahid Jewel. Starring Ador Azad and Bubly, the film promises a mix of action, romance and suspense through a story of revenge and retribution.
Toshnosh
Directed by Badiul Alam Khokon, Toshnosh stars Munna Khan and Bobby Haque in lead roles. Even before its release, the film made headlines after actor-producer Munna threatened legal action against Bobby for skipping a press conference. He alleged that her absence caused an additional production cost of Tk 8 million.
Officer
Another film directed by Badiul Alam Khokon, Officer features Mahia Mahi and D.A. Tayeb in central roles.
The University of Chankharpool
Directed by Akash Haque, The University of Chankharpool centres on hall culture, student politics and the struggles of university students in Bangladesh. The cast includes Debdyuti Aich, Rocky Khan, Bobby Biswas, Akhtaruzzaman Azad, Abu Sayed, Ifad Hasan and Niloy Bala.
